To plate them, each pair is taken apart with its drivers and mesh protected, then reassembled and tested; chips, drivers and electronics are not modified. The canopy, the mesh beneath it and the ear cushions keep Apple’s Blue, a pale, cool shade that lets the metal glow without shouting. Sound and intelligence remain Apple’s: the H2 chips, drivers, microphones, sensors and battery, and the plated controls still work exactly as Apple made them. Firmware updates arrive as usual.
